We currently have an excellent opportunity for an experienced Specifications Manager to join an established Chilled Food Manufacturer, part of a large Food Group supplying the retailers in a Maternity Contract role.
Reporting to the Innovation Manager you will work closely with the technical, wider product development and commercial teams as well as the retailer Technologist to create, maintain and update accurate product specifications for Waitrose products as well as own brand and third party products supplied across two sites. This will also involve the coordination and checking of artwork to ensure that the products comply with all relevant product legislation.
The successful candidate will ensure all ingredients used both in full scale production and new product development complies to customer requirements, with particular attention given to allergens, organic and GM, liaising with external customers and manufacturers/suppliers of ingredients as well as our own buyers to achieve this. You will risk assess new raw materials to be used in low and high risk as well as approve all new/amended ingredient/packaging specs. You will produce and maintain Quality Attribute Sheets for all retail products and ensure all relevant critical paths are set, communicated and adhered to as well as issue and amend factory specs / visual standards to production and seek approval from Soil association / Red Tractor for new/amended Organic / red tractor products.
The successful candidate will have excellent IT skills including experience of web based specification systems; have a good understanding of nutrition, microbiology, food tolerance and allergens; knowledge of legislation, food composition and labelling as well as good organisation and administration skills. You must be able to work to given time scales, be self-motivated, flexible and enthusiastic and have strong communication skills. Ideally you will hold a food related degree or equivalent.
