Christmas cooking

Look closer to home for a perfect present for the food lover in your life

Nothing says you care more than a homemade gift for Christmas.

It shows you have spent some of your valuable time making something you know your friends and family will love and appreciate.

So much thought can go into a homemade, personal gift and most families have a chocolate fan, a savoury fan, a jam fan or someone who just loves festive themed treats of any variety!

If you think of Christmas treats, you can almost smell the gingerbread, the peppermint creams, the chocolate truffles and the mince pies.

Sainsburys have lots of ideas for homemade culinary gifts with Christmas pudding cookies, gin and tonic marshmallows, microwave truffles and apple, prune and ginger pickle just some of the easy-to-make delights featured.

While Good Housekeeping has snowman spoons, mouse king fudge, fennel roasted olives, homemade ketchup, crystal snowflake cookies and puff pastry cheese straws.

One of the easiest things to make and decorate are gingerbread reindeer – and the beauty of them are they can be bought and all you need to do it turn them upside down.

Intrigued? It’s very simple, really. Buy some gingerbread men and turn them upside down. Their legs suddenly become antlers!

All you need are some tubes of writing icing and either a glace cherry or red sweets for their noses. They always go down a treat and a perfect thing to make at the start of the Christmas school holidays.

However you plan to spend the festive period, everyone at Tailor Made Resources wishes you a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
